Nationwide Tour Graduate Q&A: Jon Mills Nationwide Tour Graduate Q&A archive Editor's Note: Jon Mills finished fourth on the 2007 Nationwide Tour money list. He went on a a torrid stretch that saw him make nine consecutive cuts, with seven top-20 finishes and a T37 at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic his worst showing. That streak culminated with a win at the Albertsons Boise Open, where a tournament-record 21-under 263 and an eagle-par-birdie finish produced a three-stroke win over D.A. Points. The first-place check of $121,500 moved him to fifth on the money list, locking up his PGA TOUR card for the 2008 season. Was named the Nationwide Tour's September Player of the Month. Mills sat down recently with PGATOUR.com's Dave Lagarde for a game of 10 questions. ![]() Jon Mills (WireImage)
1. If the PGA TOUR allows music on the first tee what song will be used to introduce you? Mills: Anything by James Blunt. 2. What was your most embarrassing moment on a golf course? Mills: It happened this year in my first U.S. Open. I was below the hole on my first putt and I hit it past the hole. Then I hit another one and rolled right through the break passed the hole. The next thing I did was walk right through Craig Kanada's line. He took it well. 3. You have the power to alter any rule in the game of golf. What is it and why do you want to change it? Mills: I think players should be able to tap down spike marks. That would make it a level playing field for everyone. 4. Who would you most like to hit balls next to next year, and why? Mills: Probably Fred Couples. He was my favorite golfer when I was growing up, but I never had the chance to see him up close. That would give me that opportunity. 5. Do you have any oddball superstitions? If not, what's the strangest one you've heard of? Mills: I only use Canadian quarters to mark my ball. My Aunt Joan sends me rolls of them. They're Olympic issue quarters. 6. When your putt rolls in to win your first PGA TOUR title, will you go with the Tiger fist pump, the Mickelson mini-vertical jump or something a little crazier? Mills: It would probably be a half fist pump. Anything else would be surprising. 7. Other than winning a tournament, what would make next year a success? Mills: I'd like to keep the roll I've been on this year going. And I certainly want to stay there this time. 8. You've been granted a 60-minute sit-down with any figure in the world of golf, living or dead. What's your first question and to whom would you address it? Mills: Jack Nicklaus. I love the '86 Masters and I watch it all the time. I'd ask him what was going on inside his head on the back nine on Sunday. 9. What is your wildest golf dream? Mills: Becoming the best Canadian golfer ever and being mentioned in the same breath as Nicklaus, Tiger and Hogan. 10. What is the most valuable lesson about your profession you learned on the Nationwide Tour? Mills: The more you play tournaments and the more you see golf courses the easier it is to prepare. You know what you're up against and know what to do. |
