| Oct. 17, 2007 Who could win? Tournament coverage T.J. Auclair PGATOUR.com Interactive Producer Pick: Pat Perez With five top-10 finishes this year, I believe this is the week Perez breaks through for his first PGA TOUR win. There would be no better place for that maiden win either. Perez is an Arizona State alum who will have the luxury of sleeping in his own bed this week with a short drive down the road to the course. It would make a good year great. Brett Avery The Fantasy Insider Pick: Mike Weir That Presidents Cup glow is still warming his days and nights, and his tie for 10th in last week's Frys.com Open in Las Vegas showed that six weeks away from a stroke-play tournament didn't dampen the steady improvement he's shown this season. He's not exactly an underdog -- that label disappeared when he won the Masters -- but the galleries will give him a warmer reception after taking out Tiger Woods at Royal Montreal. Besides, how badly do you think he'd like to erase the occasional reminders that he's winless since the 2004 Nissan Open? Lauren Deason PGATOUR.com Editorial Coordinator Pick: Charley Hoffman Tough call between Tom Lehman and Quinney. Lehman's actually won at this venue before, but I'm going with the younger Nationwide Tour alum in Quinney. See, he came thisclose to earning his first victory earlier this season at the FBR Open near his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., only to fall to Baddeley at the very end. The Arizona State University alum also has an advantage over some of the bigger names in the field since he has played twice during the Fall Series, including last week at the Frys.com Open, and won't have to work off any post-Playoffs rust. Melanie Hauser PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Mike Weir We're sticking with Weirsy. He's playing too well not to have something really good happen before the end of the year. Although we admit David Duval was tempting. Dave Lagarde PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Jeff Quinney His game showed some intelligent signs of life after a long down period. He had the FBR Open title in his grasp in early February until Aaron Baddeley ripped it out of his hands. Time for redemption and his first victory? John Maginnes PGATOUR.com Contributor Pick: David Duval I have a feeling about David Duval. I don't know why. I just get the sense that he wouldn't be here if he didn't think that his game was ready. David was away for most of the year. Even when he has shown up, he hasn't played the way that he once did. But I like him this week. He is too good to stay away forever. Helen Ross PGATOUR.com Chief of Correspondents Pick: Jason Gore He's got two top-10s in his last five starts -- including a tie for seventh last week at the Frys.com Open. Look for Gore to excel in Scottsdale, and it would be a popular win. Dave Shedloski PGATOUR.com Senior Correspondent Pick: Bubba Watson I gave Tom Lehman serious consideration for his local knowledge and success in the 1995 Williams World Challenge, but he hasn't teed it up since The Barclays. Bubba Watson ended his vacation last week in Las Vegas and tied for 14th, so he's got a start under his belt. The test will be tougher, but somewhat similar this week, but Watson's length can't be ignored as a true weapon and his tie for eighth in February at the FBR Open down the street is a good harbinger. |
