Pick: Tiger Woods
It's impossible to pick against Tiger. I feel like I say this every time he plays and I probably do. After his putting performance at the Wachovia Championship last week, which was nothing short of deadly, Tiger should be even harder to beat than usual -- not to mention the changes at TPC Sawgrass. There are 18 reconstructed greens here that are new for everyone even if they're a lot like the old greens. Anything "new" plays into the hands of Tiger since he's the best player in the world and can adjust to anything. I'm not saying it'll be a big win, but it will be a win nonetheless.

Pick: Tiger Woods
Last week's Wachovia Championship victory makes him a potentially crummy pick because of his record on back-to-back victories in the first six months of the season. He constantly wins consecutive events late in the year, but the last time he did it before mid-May was 2003 (World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and Bay Hill Invitational). The time before that was 2001 (Bay Hill Invitational, PLAYERS, Masters). If any of the one-time PLAYERS champs is destined to win a second it's this guy, even if he's tied for 22nd and 53rd his last two starts at the TPC Sawgrass.

Pick: Tiger Woods
He's played in six events and won three this year. He now leads the FedExCup standings over Vijay Singh, who has played in over twice as many tournaments this year as Woods. I'd say he's got a pretty good winning percentage going, and it's a safe bet that he'll fare well at THE PLAYERS Championship. Plus, since Woods won in '01, winners of THE PLAYERS have alternated between an American winner and an International one. Look for him to continue the pattern and again add his name to the Circle of Champions at TPC Sawgrass with a victory this week.

Pick: Tiger Woods
You heard him. He came here to win. No, he's not the only one thinking that, nor is he the only one on the short list. But are you going to argue with nine wins in his last 13 events? He's comfy anywhere -- even with a tropical depression swirling a few miles off the coast. It's one of the few big events he's only won once, so a second one is key. So is a third to tie Jack's record and a fourth to make it his own.

Pick: Geoff Ogilvy
Granted, he hasn't shown much of late, but the harder the course the better this Aussie seems to play considering he is the U.S. Open champion. The TPC Sawgrass should play just like a U.S. Open track now that it has moved to May and the firm, fast conditions will play right into Ogilvy's hands.

Sure you can come up with reasons not to pick Tiger this week. He hasn't won here in six years. The golf course favors position over power. Blah, blah blah....Tiger will win this week. He is the best player in the world. He may be the best ever. Jack has three PLAYERS. Tiger only has one. Tiger has all of Jack's other records in his sights. Why not this one?

Pick: Vijay Singh

It would be easy to pick Tiger Woods, and maybe I should. But I slipped to fourth this week, so I want to try to make up some ground. Not to mention, Singh is playing well right now -- that triple bogey on the 72nd hole of the Wachovia Championship notwithstanding. He lives in Ponte Vedra and knows THE PLAYERS Stadium Course as well as anyone. He has four top-13 finishes in his last six starts, including second in 2001 and a tie for eighth last year when he entered the final round one stroke off the pace.

Pick: Tiger Woods
Fresh off his third win of the season at the Wachovia Championship, the No. 1 player in the world seems perfectly poised for his second PLAYERS title. Regardless of conditions, no one in the game moves the ball better than Woods, who also has more shots around the greens and is still the best putter. THE PLAYERS is a complete examination. Who better to select than the most complete player?
