Memorial Tournament: Second-Round Notebook PGA TOUR Staff DUBLIN, Ohio -- The 36-hole cut at this year's Memorial Tournament fell at 2-over-par 146, with 73 players making it to the weekend. Adam Scott's second-round 62 tied his career low on the PGA TOUR (2004 Booz Allen Classic, Rd. 2; 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship, Rd. 2; 2003 Honda Classic, Rd. 4) and was one shot shy of John Huston's course-record 61, set in 1996. ![]() Bubba Watson leads the field in Driving Distance with an average of 333.5 yards. Scott's opening rounds of 70-62--132 continue a streak the FedExCup's No. 7-ranked player would rather not hold. He has not opened a tournament with two rounds in the 60s since his victory at the 2006 TOUR Championship (69-67-67-66--269). Four of Scott's five career PGA TOUR titles have come after being a leader/co-leader through 36 holes. His victories came in the 2006 TOUR Championship, the 2005 Nissan Open, the 2004 Booz Allen Classic and the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship. His lone loss came in the 2006 EDS Byron Nelson Championship. Through two rounds, Bubba Watson leads the field in Driving Distance with an average of 333.5 yards. The last player to lead the Memorial Tournament in Driving Distance at week's end and go on to win was Tiger Woods in 2001 (292.6 yards). With Rod Pampling's 68 on Friday, the two-time PGA TOUR winner has now carded 19 of his past 22 rounds on TOUR at par or better. Ryan Moore carded rounds of 66-69--135, his lowest 36-hole total on the 2007 PGA TOUR. The two rounds in the 60s are his first career rounds below 70 at the Memorial Tournament. Through two rounds, eight players have recorded two rounds in the 60s. No player in 2006 was able to card all four rounds in the 60s, while 2005 Memorial Tournament winner Bart Bryant closed with a 4-under 68 to record four rounds in the 60s at Muirfield Village Golf Club. It was just the eighth time in the 29-year history of the Memorial Tournament that a player has managed to record four rounds in the 60s: Tiger Woods (2001), Fred Couples (1998 and 2004), Steve Elkington (1995), Tom Lehman (1994), Paul Azinger (1993), Hal Sutton (1986) and Bryant (2005). Three players with 10 or more starts at the Memorial Tournament extended their perfect cut records on Friday at Muirfield Village Golf Club. They include: Ernie Els (14 of 14), Jim Furyk (12 of 12), David Duval (10 of 10, though not playing this week), and Tiger Woods (10 of 10). Defending champion Carl Pettersson fired rounds of 68-75--143 in his title defense. The last Memorial Tournament defending champion to break 70 in the second round was Tiger Woods in 2001, when he won his third straight title (68-69-68-66--271). Through two rounds, Chris Dimarco, Frank Lickliter II, and Will MacKenzie lead the field in total eagles with two each. Tiger Woods' second-round 72 marks the first time he has failed to break par at Muirfield Village Golf Club since the opening round of the 2004 Memorial Tournament (72-68-67-69--276). 2006 U.S. Amateur champion Richie Ramsay missed the cut with rounds of 77-73--150. The last amateur to play the weekend at the Memorial Tournament was Luke Donald in 2000 (T51). There were three bogey-free rounds on Friday, from Rod Pampling (68), Trevor Immelman (67) and Jason Gore (70). Gore has failed to record a single bogey through two rounds, and his rounds of 70-70--140 have included four birdies and 32 pars. Ian Poulter was disqualified on Friday for signing an incorrect scorecard. Poulter signed for a 3 on the par-3 12th when he actually made a 4. The average score at Muirfield Village on Friday was 72.379, following a 71.240 averaqge on Thursday. Copyright 2007 PGATOUR.com. All rights reserved. |
