Pick: Tim Petrovic
Petrovic hasn't done a whole lot this season, but he does head to Memphis this week coming off his best finish of 2007 -- a tie for 12th in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. So, why Petrovic? He came oh-so close to his first career TOUR win in Memphis back in 2002 when he finished second (Petrovic earned his first and only TOUR win three years later in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans). His worst round that week was a 3-under-par 68. Granted, scores won't be as low this week at the beefed up TPC Southwind, but Petrovic won't be leaving Memphis singing the blues.

Pick: Richard S. Johnson
This guy's banged it all over the place this season, missing seven of 17 cuts and withdrawing from another event. But he's played 72 holes the last three starts, including rebounding from a first-round 73 (on the best scoring day in Memorial history) to tie for 21st. He's in the top 100 in only one significant stat (74th in fairways hit) but for TFI to climb the standings it's time to take a few chances.

Pick: Loren Roberts
The PGA TOUR has two 2007 Champions Tour winners in the Stanford St. Jude Championship field this week in Fred Funk and Loren Roberts. In fact, 50-year-old Funk is even a PGA TOUR winner as well, since he took the inaugural 2007 Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun title. This week could be Roberts' turn to become a duel Tour winner, since he takes momentum into Memphis after an impressive three-stroke victory on the Champions Tour last week. Roberts calls TPC Southwind his home course, so he should fare well at his own club. Plus, as an excellent putter and consistent ball-striker, he should do well on a course that doesn't favor the long hitters. Case in point -- since 2000, the Stanford St. Jude Championship winner has not finished higher than 72nd in Driving Distance for the season in which they won. Where does Roberts sit currently in driving distance on the Champions Tour, where he spends most of his time these days? Tied for 47th.

Out of the blue? Hey, he's swinging well, just qualified for the Open and this could be the week. His swing has always been to die for and he's getting more confidence by the event. Fellow Greater Houstonian Jeff Maggert won here last year and K.J. just won Sunday. Houston, we may have another winner.

Pick: Loren Roberts
My dark horse this week may be a sway back steed... ridden by a knight with dented armor and bent lance. Loren Roberts is playing some of the best golf of his career well into his Champions Tour career. There is no pressure on Loren who is only playing a couple of tournaments this year on the junior circuit. Moss gets greener with age and over the last couple of years the 'boss of the moss' has made lots of green.

Pick: Brett Quigley
He's coming off four straight sub-par rounds and a tie for 11th at the Memorial Tournament. He's had two top-10s in Memphis, too, including last year, so maybe this will be the week that Quigley gets the win he so richly deserves.

Pick: Tim Herron
Herron's tie for 15th at the Memorial Tournament was his best finish of the season, and now he heads to Memphis, where he has been consistently effective, though never a winner there. That he has two top-10s at TPC Southwind, including a tie for second in 1999, is a somewhat deceiving stat. Try this: only once in his nine appearances has he finished outside the top 24, that being 75th in 2000.
