Which player could surprise at this weekend's Travelers Championship? Our experts weigh in:

Pick: Brett Quigley
Why not? If Quigley were to win he'd be the third New England-born player to win in Hartford in the last three years, joining defending champion J.J. Henry and Quigley's fellow Rhode Islander, Brad Faxon. Quigley has got to break through at some point, he's just too good not to. Don't read anything into his 16-over-par 86 in the second round of the U.S. Open. The scoring average that day was a shade under seven strokes over par and Oakmont is just brutal.

It's been a so-so year where he's made six of 10 cuts on the PGA TOUR and stepped over to the Nationwide Tour for extra work (but missed two out of the three cuts there, too). Hartford is within his comfort zone, though, with a ninth, 11th and 31st in his three starts. If you're keeping score, he's shot 63 twice and had two early 66s last year before fading. If you like this guy, and TFI believes he has promise, this is one place to grab him.

Pick: Jerry Kelly
Jerry Kelly has had it going on lately -- he hasn't missed a cut since mid-March and has earned six top 10s in that time (including a tie for fifth at the Masters and a tie for seventh at the U.S. Open). The University of Hartford grad returns to Connecticut this week for a chance to earn his third PGA TOUR win at a venue where he's missed half a dozen cuts. He's not had such a great past at TPC River Highlands, to be sure, but when he plays well he does really well, earning a tie for fourth in 2005.

Pick: Notah Begay III
There's a soft spot in my heart for this guy. He's got worlds of talent and has overcome more than so many. He didn't get his card, so he's been playing in Europe and he's one of the few who didn't go through the Oakmontrous grind last week so he's fresh and rested. He tied for ninth here last year and won in 2000. Plus, he's all smiles for his buddy Tiger and his new semi-niece Sam Alexis.

Pick: Hunter Mahan
He played steady, solid golf at Oakmont to notch a tie for 13th with all four rounds recorded between 72 and 74. He had a tie for second here last year; his best finish of the season. He might ride that confidence-boosting Open performance to the winner's circle for the first time.

Pick: Tim Herron
The agreed-upon darkhorse this week is Lumpy. Tim has been playing better lately but hasn't snuck into the top 10 in recent weeks. That is all likely to change this week. Everything at the TPC River Highlands is set up from the tee. Lumpy is a great driver of the golf ball. Look for the big man to grab the attention of the second-largest galleries of the year.

Pick: Carl Pettersson
The Swede played well last week at the U.S. Open under the most difficult of conditions. Look for him to find a comfort zone at the TPC River Highlands. He tied for 31st last year, which isn't exactly eye-popping, but he knows he can play there after shooting 66 and 67 in the first and final rounds, respectively.

The former University of Hartford golfer hasn't had a great record at the Travelers Championship -- just two top-10 finishes, including a tie for fourth two years ago -- but he's having a very nice 2007 season, including a tie for seventh at last week's U.S. Open, which gives him top-10s in the first two majors of the year. This is a sleeper who is on the verge of a huge wake-up call. Maybe this is the week.
