MARANA, Ariz. -- With his first-round victory over 2001 Accenture Match Play Champion Steve Stricker, Geoff Ogilvy has now won seven consecutive matches at the Accenture Match Play Championship. Last year he won the event in his first start.

• With his victory on Wednesday, Tiger Woods ran his career Accenture Match Play Championship record to 24-5 and has won 15 of his last 17 matches.

• Of the nine first-time participants at the 2007 Accenture Match Play Championship, only two came out on top on Wednesday. Aaron Baddeley defeated Shingo Katayama, 1 up, and Bradley Dredge defeated Ernie Els, 4 & 2).

• First-timers who lost on Wednesday included Brett Wetterich (lost to Chris DiMarco, 4 & 3); Paul Goydos (lost to Jose Maria Olazabal, 19 holes; Jeev Milkha Singh (lost to Stewart Cink, 3 & 2); Yong-Eun Yang (lost to Rod Pampling, 5 & 4; J.J. Henry (lost to Tiger Woods, 3 & 2; Brett Quigley (lost to Jim Furyk, 2 & 1); and Johan Edfors (lost to Colin Montgomerie, 2 & 1).

• Three of the No. 1 seeds were victorious on Wednesday, while Adam Scott, who lost to Shaun Micheel in 21 holes, was the only No. 1 seed to lose. On the day, 21 lower seeds emerged victorious in the 32 matches. The three top seeds -- Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk -- all won their respective first-round matches.

• Thirteen of the top 16 seeds earned victories. Among the top 16, only Davis Love III (4), Adam Scott (1) and Ernie Els (2) are heading home.

• Only four matches went extra holes during Wednesday's first-round matches. Jose Maria Olazabal topped Paul Goydos in 19 holes; Padraig Harrington edged Lee Westwood in 19 holes; Sergio Garcia defeated Darren Clarke in 19 holes; and Shaun Micheel beat Adam Scott in 21 holes, in the longest match of the day.

• Of the 64 players in the field, international players: 22 of the 41 won their first round matches, while 10 of the 23 American players advanced to the second round. Players from 12 countries are still in the field.
