Accenture Match Play: Final-Round Notebook

MARANA, Ariz. -- By winning the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship on Sunday, Henrik Stenson earned his first career PGA TOUR victory in his 16th career start on the PGA TOUR at the age of 30 years, 10 months, and 20 days.

• Stenson earned 4,725 FedExCup points for his win. These are his first career points for the FedExCup standings.

• His victory earns Stenson a three-year exemption on the PGA TOUR that will take him through the 2010 season. He also earns exemption into several invitational tournaments, including the 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii.

• Stenson is the first player from Sweden to win a World Golf Championships event. He won the Accenture Match Play Championship in just second start at the event, having finished T17 in 2006.

• He is the first PGA TOUR rookie to win a World Golf Championships event, and becomes the third player to earn his first PGA TOUR victory at the Accenture Match Play Championship, joining Darren Clarke (2000) and Kevin Sutherland (2002).

• Stenson becomes the third European Tour Member to win a WGC event, following Darren Clarke (2000 Accenture Match Play Championship and 2003 Bridgestone Invitational) and Ernie Els (2004 CA Championship). He is also the 12th different player to win a World Golf Championship event.

• Stenson is the first Swedish player to win on the 2007 PGA TOUR, and is the third international winner on TOUR this year. He also becomes the fourth Swedish player to win on the PGA TOUR, following Jesper Parnevik, Gabriel Hjertstedt and Carl Pettersson.

• Stenson won in his first start as an official member of the PGA TOUR, and became the first rookie to win in 2007. Coincidentally, the last player to win his first start as an official member of the TOUR was Garrett Willis at the 2001 Touchstone Energy Tucson Open.

• Stenson now has won in back-to-back starts. In his last appearance, he won the 2007 Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour.

• With the victory, Stenson jumps up to No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking, the highest position of career. And his first-place paycheck of $1,350,000 takes his career PGA TOUR earnings to $1,986,222.

• In the Accenture field this year were 41 international players from 19 countries along with 23 United States players. Australia had eight players, the most of any foreign country. The oldest player was Vijay Singh at 44, while the youngest was Aaron Baddeley at 25. the first-time participants were Yong-Eun Yang, Aaron Baddeley, J.J. Henry, Jeev Milkha Singh, Paul Goydos, Brett Wetterich, Johan Edfors, Bradley Dredge and Brett Quigley.

Tiger Woods (31) has played in the most matches in Accenture Match Play Championship history, with 25 wins in that span. David Toms (29) is second while Davis Love III (27) is third.

• Tiger Woods has won two World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championships (2003-04) and has 12 official PGA TOUR wins in 23 World Golf Championships starts. Last year, Woods collected two World Golf Championship wins, at the Bridgestone Invitational and CA Championship.
