Jul. 4, 2007 Who could win? Tournament Coverage Play TOUR Fantasy Games
Which player could surprise at this weekend's AT&T National? Our experts weigh in:

Pick: Joe Durant
Arguably the hottest player not named Tiger Woods at the end of the 2006 season, Durant is one of the purest ball-strikers on the PGA TOUR. He enters the inaugural AT&T National coming off two missed cuts. His best finish in 17 starts this season was a tie for 16th at the season-opening, limited-field Mercedes-Benz Championship. So why Durant this week? For starters, he's due to turn it around. Also, the last time a tournament was played at Congressional was in 2005 where Durant tied for seventh. Maybe he can find some of his magic at a course where he's played well before.

Pick: Lucas Glover
He's had a bumpy ride of late with two missed cuts (THE PLAYERS Championship and a second-round 80 at the U.S. Open) and a withdrawal (The Memorial). But he returned to form in last week's Buick Open with a tie for 10th on a more characteristic 68-68-70-70. That's his third under-the-radar top 10 this year, remarkably all in his last dozen starts despite the slings and arrows. His worse standing in top-line stats is greens in regulation (62.22 percent, tied 122nd), which is foreboding at Congressional, but he tied for 17th last week in that category. Keep the fingers crossed.

Pick: Davis Love III
If you're questioning how a 19-time PGA TOUR winner can count as a sleeper, consider this: Love has dropped out of the top-30 in the Official World Golf Ranking and hasn't had a top-10 finish since early February. He's also missed the cut in his last two tournaments, but Love has a history of doing well at Congressional Country Club, tying for second when the Booz Allen Classic was held there in 2005 and tying for 16th at the 1997 U.S. Open. Love could make it an even 20 TOUR titles this week.

Jason Gore is a great pick, but the rules prevent me from going there. Ditto for Justin Leonard, who has a great record in the D.C. area. Lucas Glover is close, but has been up and down. But AK? Well, our rules prevented his selection for a few tournaments, but he's back in the pool now and worth more than just a passing look. With the exception of THE PLAYERS, he's got a strong record, including a pair of top-fives. If not now, soon.

Pick: Michael Putnam
He should be full of confidence after his medalist performance at the British Open qualifying event at Oakland Hills, which was set up as difficult as possible for the 36-hole qualifier. He owns a world of talent but has not risen to the occasion thus far in his rookie season on the PGA TOUR. Perhaps his qualifier performance will serve as a spark.

Pick: John Daly
For the second week in a row I am going with John Daly as my dark horse. Originally not in the field, big John was added after John Cook withdrew due to a shoulder injury. JD has something to prove and this is the perfect stage. He nearly finished in the top 19 a week ago. He should push through this week.

Pick: Lucas Glover
Lucas Glover is coming off a tie for 10th at the Buick Open last week -- which helped erase the bitter taste of that missed cut at the U.S. Open. Another good finish here at the AT&T National would help his Presidents Cup chances considerably, too, with only five weeks left to earn points.

Pick: Davis Love III
Let's see, Roger Maltbie won the first Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus and Bob Byman won the first Arnold Palmer Invitational hosted by, well, you know. Neither was hardly headliner or favorite going in, so maybe our sleeper is the favorite in this situation. We're taking someone with a slightly more lustrous pedigree in Love, who has two top-five finishes in 2007, both early in the year. He has handled Congressional quite nicely in recent visits and he's coming off consecutive missed cuts, so he ought to have some extra motivation.
