Auclair PGATOUR.com Interactive Producer Pick: Chris Riley Riley is a former winner in Reno. The one-time Ryder Cupper has struggled mightily since the U.S. defeat at Oakland Hills in 2004, but he might be on the rise again. Riley won in just his second start on the Nationwide Tour this season at the Rochester Area Charities Showdown at Somerby presented by Think in June. That was his first win since the Reno victory in 2002. His confidence off the Nationwide Tour win is evident in his results -- after missing one PGA TOUR cut, he's rolled off three cuts made, including two top 25s. Brett Avery The Fantasy Insider Pick: Lucas Glover As expected, that withdrawal from the Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley and missed cut at the U.S. Open provided the needed jolt. Glover has had three finishes in the top 12 since then and a tie for 27th in the British Open didn't hurt matters. He looks strong heading for the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. Lauren Deason PGATOUR.com Editorial Coordinator Pick: Will MacKenzie Will MacKenzie returns to the Reno-Tahoe Open to defend his 2006 title and earn his second PGA TOUR victory. The unconventional golfer -- who boasts such diverse interests as professional kayaking, heliboarding and rock climbing -- made some waves early in the season by tying for fourth at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, but he hasn't followed that up with another top-5 finish in 2007, so the defending champ is a sleeper heading into this week's tournament.
Melanie Hauser PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Lucas Glover The guy has so much game it's scary. He's got three top-12s in his last four starts, which means he's getting close to a second career victory. It's just a matter of when. He's been a sleeper several times now, just not at the right events. The Reno-Tahoe Open, set at Montreux Golf and Country Club, will change it all. Dave Lagarde PGATOUR.com Correspondent Pick: Chris Riley The Reno-Tahoe Open is the scene of his only PGA TOUR victory back in 2002. He has four top-25s in limited play on the PGA TOUR this year and a victory at the 2007 Showdown at Somerby in just two starts on the Nationwide Tour. Can pleasant memories guide him back into the Big Show? Helen Ross PGATOUR.com Chief of Correspondants Pick: Shigeki Maruyama Shigeki Maruyama's season hasn't been what he hoped. The last three times he's cashed a check, though, he's been among the top 22 -- most recently Sunday at the Canadian Open presented by Franklin Templeton Investments. Maruyama has had success in Reno, too -- tying for ninth last year. Dave Shedloski PGATOUR.com Senior Correspondent Pick: Tom Pernice, Jr. A tie for 10th last week in Canada after playing in the British Open was a nice effort -- equaling his best finish of the season. He has made only one other appearance at Reno-Tahoe Open and tied for sixth, so he can get it around Montreux G&CC. Another 40-something player who could add to his resume this week. |
