CHARLOTTE N.C. -- Two of the most recognized athletes in the world will share 18 holes of golf Wednesday at the Wachovia Championship pro-am. It will be the first time Tiger Woods, golf's No. 1 player and basketball legend Michael Jordan have played in an official competition together.

"Wachovia and the Wachovia Championship wanted to bring these two great athletes together to give the patrons at the Wachovia Championship an opportunity to see something special," said Dan Fleishman, director of sponsorships and alliances for Wachovia. "Certainly, Michael and Tiger are good friends and have played a lot of personal golf together. But we are grateful they agreed to compete in the pro-am together this year."

The Wachovia Championship's Wednesday pro-am has a unique format on the PGA TOUR of two amateurs per TOUR professional, unlike the traditional four amateurs at other PGA TOUR stops.

The threesome will tee off at 7:30 a.m. off the first tee Wednesday morning.

"We are pleased to have this opportunity to enhance the patrons experience on Wednesday and this special threesome will only be the beginning of an extraordinary Pro-Am," said Kim Hougham, the executive director of the Wachovia Championship. "These two gentlemen are two of the most well-known athletes in the world and to have them both here for one day playing in the same group is a special treat."
