Hale Irwin's T2 finish jumped him up into third place with 555 total points and Tom Purtzer is now fourth in the Schwab Cup standings with 526 points and David Eger is now fifth with 329 points. At the end of the official season, the player earning the most points will receive a $1 million annuity. Keith Fergus won his first Champions Tour title in his 72nd start on the circuit. Fergus became the eighth different winner in as many official events played in 2007. Fergus ended a TOUR victory drought of 12 and a half years (1994 Boise Open, Nationwide Tour). He joined Ron Streck (2005) as just the second professional to win events all three TOURs (PGA TOUR, Nationwide Tour and Champions Tour). Fergus' last of three victories on the PGA TOUR came at the 1983 Bob Hope Desert Classic in Palm Springs. Keith Fergus increased his 2007 official earnings to $545,605 (5th). His victory earned him a trip to the season-opening MasterCard Championship at Hualalai in Hawaii next year. Mark O'Meara's T2 finish Sunday was his best performance on the Champions Tour and his fourth consecutive top-10 finish. Since posting an 82 in the final round of the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, O'Meara has recorded 12 consecutive sub-par rounds with nine rounds in the 60s during that stretch. Hale Irwin, the all-time victory leader on the Champions Tour with 45 titles, finished T2 this week, the 42nd second-place effort of his senior career. He earned a check for $200,000 and moved his all-time (PGA TOUR/Champions Tour combined) earnings to just short of $30 million ($29,949,874). The Ocean Club at Hammock Beach averaged 72.517, the second-highest field stroke average on the Champions Tour thus far in 2007 (74.071 at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am). The Sunday stroke average (73.038) was also the second highest for a final-round on the circuit this year (75.176 at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am). The par-4 18th hole yielded just seven birdies all week and played to a stroke average of 4.487. The hole now ranks as the second-hardest on the Champions Tour this year. Only the par-4 15th at the TPC Tampa Bay (4.520) has played harder in 2007. David Eger's 8-under 64 Sunday was not only the low round of the tournament, but also was a competitive course record at the Ocean Club at Hammock Beach. The round moved Eger up 35 spots into a T8 and earned him a spot in the FedEx Kinko's Classic in Austin next month. Joe Ozaki posted his third straight top-10 finish and also earned a trip to the FedEx Kinko's Classic. Brad Bryant's four eagles were the most by any player in the field this week. Bryant ranked 31st for the week in Driving Distance, averaging 262.1 yards off the tee. Copyright 2007 PGATOUR.com. All rights reserved. |
