Say what? with Steve Czaban

Steve Czaban has enjoyed a 15-year career working for all three major syndicated sports talk networks (Sporting News, ESPN Radio, Fox Sports Radio). Czaban (or "Czabe" as his listeners call him) currently hosts "The First Team on Fox" for nationally syndicated Fox Sports Radio. His morning drive program airs daily from 6-9 a.m. and is heard in over 110 markets and on XM Radio Channel 142.

An avid golfer, Czaban created and directs a Ryder Cup style amateur golf tournament in the Washington D.C. area called "The Potomac Cup." He also launched an event in Wisconsin called "The Ham and Egg Open" which benefits skin cancer research.

PGA TOUR Media Official John Bush had the opportunity of sitting down with Czaban for another edition of "Say What" at the Nationwide Tour stop at the Henrico County Open. Czaban was in town playing in the tournament's Pro-Am with Nationwide Tour member Tim O'Neal.

PGATOUR.COM: Is the "C" really necessary in your last name?

Czaban: It is totally unnecessary. If the Czaban family were smart, we would have gotten rid of it a long time ago.

PGATOUR.COM: What are the first words that come to your mind when you think of ...

PGATOUR.COM: Tiger Woods?

Czaban: Awesome.

PGATOUR.COM: Michael Jordan?

Czaban: The greatest basketball player ever.

PGATOUR.COM: Bob Uecker?

Czaban: One lucky guy.

PGATOUR.COM: Joe Gibbs?

Czaban: The best coach the Redskins have ever had.

Steve Spurrier?

Czaban: A great college coach.

PGATOUR.COM: If you were President of the United States for a day, what would you do?

Czaban: Declare every Monday a national golf holiday.

PGATOUR.COM: What is your favorite sports memory as a child?

Czaban: The 1982 NFC Championship game. I remember Dexter Manley knocking Danny White out of the game and my beloved Redskins going on to beat the Cowboys.

PGATOUR.COM: Who is your favorite Redskin of all time?

Czaban: Wide Receiver Gary Clark.

PGATOUR.COM: Who is your favorite baseball team?

Czaban: The Nationals, of course.

PGATOUR.COM: Favorite basketball team?

Czaban: Professionally, it would be the Washington Wizards. Collegiately, it would be UC-Santa Barbara.

PGATOUR.COM: Who is the greatest athlete of all time?

Czaban: Jim Brown.

PGATOUR.COM: Of all the golf courses you've played, which is your favorite?

Czaban: The River at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin. What a beautiful place.

PGATOUR.COM: Which course would you most like to play that you haven't already?

Czaban: Castle Pines.

PGATOUR.COM: What is your best score?

Czaban: Back in 2002, I shot a 72 at Reston (Va.) National. That was a really good day.

PGATOUR.COM: Favorite sports movie?

Czaban: Jerry Maguire.

PGATOUR.COM: If you could be any character in a movie, who would it be?

Czaban: Eddie Murphy's role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop.

PGATOUR.COM: Your mom is a retired teacher. What was your favorite subject in school and why?

Czaban: History, because it wasn't math.

Czaban: No, believe it or not I was actually pretty well-behaved.
