After two rounds of the second stage q-school event in Brooksville, Fla., there is a five-way tie for the lead at 7 under headed by former PGA TOUR champions Garrett Willis and Robert Gamez.

Willis fired a 66 in the second round while Gamez shot 67. Major Manning of Daytona Beach, Fla.; Seung-su Han of Irvine, Calif.; and Josh Teeter of Lexington, Ky., are also tied at 7 under.

TOUR veterans Marco Dawson and Todd Demsey are among five players knotted at 5 under. Eric Compton, who recently underwent his second heart transplant, heads a group of four players at 4 under.

Stephen Poole is alone in third at 8 under after shooting 68 on Thursday. Jeff Gove, a three-time winner on the Nationwide Tour, also shot 3 under in the second round to move to 7 under and into sole possession of fourth.

Richard Johnson, a two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour who just completed his rookie year on the PGA TOUR, owns the lead at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas.

The Welshman who now lives in Arkansas shot a second-round 69 to move to 10 under.

Mathias Gronberg, a TOUR vet with four European Tour wins to his credit, is among four players another stroke behind.

Robert Damron, who won the 2001 Verizon Byron Nelson Classic, fired a 65 on Thursday to take a one-stroke advantage in the second stage event at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Another former TOUR champ and member of the 2004 U.S. Ryder Cup team, Chris Riley, is tied with John Riegger of Henderson, Nev., in second. Riegger shot his second straight 67 on Thursday while Riley had a 68.
