Jim Gallagher Jr., Chris DiMarco, Vijay Singh
Tee time:
8:45 a.m.
Tee: No. 10
Total TOUR wins: 39
Why you should watch: Singh had a solid 69 on Thursday, but imagine what it could have been. Singh had bogeys on Nos. 2 and 4 and a double bogey on the par-3 11th. Singh, who entered the week ranked 74th on the 2008 PGA TOUR in Putting Average, finished the day ranked first in the field in that category with an average of 1.364 (putts per green in regulation). DiMarco, who's game had been coming around, struggled through a 77 on Thursday. It'll be interesting to see how he battles back.

Scott Verplank, Davis Love III, Eric Axley
Tee time:
1:36 p.m.
Tee: No. 1
Total TOUR wins: 25
Why you should watch: Love III, making only his second start at the Stanford St. Jude Championship since 1999, opened with a round of 2-under 68 on Thursday. Love, who finished T4 here in 2005, only has one top-10 finish in his last 28 starts on the PGA TOUR (tie for sixth at the World Golf Championships-WGC-Bridgestone Invitational). Axley, trying to recover after four missed cuts in his past six starts, stands tied for 24th at even par through 18 holes after two bogeys and two birdies on Thursday. Verplank is one shot back of Axley after a 71 that included a double-bogey on the par-3 11th.

Boo Weekley, Chad Campbell, Tim Herron
Tee time:
1:54 p.m.
Tee: No. 10
Total TOUR wins: 10
Why you should watch: The first-round leader -- in this case Weekley -- has won the Stanford St. Jude Championship 12 times in the tournament's 50-year history. Justin Leonard was the last to do so in 2005. Still, this season has proved difficult for first-round leaders to hang on to the lead for the next 54 holes as only five have gone on to win in 23 stroke-play events in 2008. On the surface, it would appear that Campbell's 72 isn't worth noting. However, it's his best competitive round since a 68 on Sunday at THE PLAYERS -- five rounds ago.

Weekley 15 12 1 -- -- 4 9 71.10

Herron 14 9 -- -- -- -- 2 72.21
