MALELANE, South Africa (AP) -- Michael Jonzon had three birdies and an eagle through his first seven holes Thursday to move into a share of the lead at 7-under 65 with Len Mattiace after the first round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Jonzon slowed on the back nine at Leopard Creek, with just two more birdies, but the Swede didn't drop a shot throughout the round.

"The greens were very receptive, and even though I wasn't driving that well today, it didn't matter what side of the pin you left the ball," Jonzon said. "It all went right for me."

Mattiace had one bogey in his round of eight birdies.

"I don't think I've ever played a round where I've hit it close that many times," the American said. "I figure when they do that, I kind of get out of my own way, let it keep going. I mean, how many times do you have that?"

Mattiace missed out on the PGA Tour Qualifying School final, but played last week in Argentina.

"I wanted to go around and shoot a really low score and I really mapped it out and I stuck pretty good to what I thought I should do," Mattiace said. "I really challenged myself today."

Four other players shot 6-under 66s, including Lee Westwood and Robert Rock, to tie for second. Two others were at 67 and four were at 68.
