Hunter Mahan has to be confident as he looks to 2009. After all, he came within a shot of a successful defense at the Travelers Championship in 2008 and made his first Ryder Cup team.
Mahan birdied the 72nd hole at the TPC River Highlands, which made Stewart Cink reach deep with a clutch up-and-down for par to win. That was the best of five top 10s, which helped push him over $2 million for the second straight year.
Mahan's final top 10, a tie for eighth at the BMW Championship, came the same week he was named a Captain's Pick for the Ryder Cup where he went undefeated at 2-0-3. Mahan capped the season with a win at the Kiwi Challenge, a Challenge Season event that featured three other top young players: Anthony Kim, Brandt Snedeker and Adam Scott.
