Notebook: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

Weather: Hot and humid conditions continued on Sunday. Highs into the low to mid 90's in the afternoon under partly cloudy skies. Winds SSE at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

• Phil Mickelson carded a final-round two-under-par 68 to capture the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial by one shot over Rod Pampling and Tim Clark. With his win, Mickelson picks up 4,500 FedExCup points staying in second place with 15,346 on the year, but cutting Tiger Woods' lead to 2,399 points.

• With his second victory of the 2008 season, Phil Mickelson is the only player to record multiple wins in each of the past five seasons.

• Mickelson joins Ben Hogan (1947), Sam Snead (1950) and Bill Casper (1968) as the only players to win the Northern Trust Open and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in the same season.

• Mickelson birdied the final hole of regulation for his one-stroke victory. The last time he birdied the final hole to win was the 2005 PGA Championship.

• Mickelson's victory marks the 10th time this season on the PGA TOUR that the 36-hole leader/co-leader has gone on to win that week. Mickelson was also the 36-hole leader when he won earlier this year at the Northern Trust Open. Others - K.J. Choi (Sony Open), D.J. Trahan (Bob Hope Chrysler Classic), Tiger Woods (Buick Invitational), and J.B. Holmes (FBR Open), Geoff Ogilvy (WGC-CA Championship), Johnson Wagner (Shell Houston Open), Trevor Immelman (The Masters) and Adam Scott (EDS Byron Nelson Championship).

• Mickelson's win means the 54-hole leader has now gone on to win 13 out of 22 stroke-play tournaments thus far on the 2008 PGA TOUR. Mickelson has now recorded at least two victories in 12 different seasons including eight of the last nine years and in each of the past five years.

• With his 34th career PGA TOUR title, Mickelson remains in solo 13th on the list of all-time TOUR winners and is now two behind No. 12 on the list, Lloyd Mangrum:

• Mickelson's victory marks the seventh consecutive time that the 54-hole leader has gone on to win at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The last come-from-behind winner at Colonial was Sergio Garcia in 2001, who made up a five-shot deficit to win in the final round against Phil Mickelson.

• In the 61-year history of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, the 54-hole leader/co-leader has now gone on to claim victory 34 times.

• Mickelson has now made $2.7 million this season. It is the 13th consecutive season (1996-2008) the Mickelson has made more than $1 million on TOUR, tying him for the PGA TOUR record with Davis Love III (1995-2007).

• Rod Pampling's T2 marks the fourth consecutive year that he has finished inside the top-12 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

• Rod Pampling has been feast or famine as of late. In his last 12 events, the Australian has missed seven cuts. However, in the five events that he has made it to the weekend, he has recorded four top-10 finishes and been in the top-23 in all five.

• Tim Clark shot a final-round 66 to finish T2, earning his first top-10 of the 2008 season in his 12th start. This marks his longest top-10 drought to begin a PGA TOUR season since Clark became a full-time member in 2002.

• Ben Crane shot 67 marking the first time since the 2006 Booz Allen Classic that Crane has recorded all rounds in the 60s. Crane shot rounds of 68-68-67-67 this week. It is Crane's second consecutive top-10 finish, after finishing T6 at THE Players Championship, and his third of the 2008 PGA TOUR season.

• With his T7 finish, Jeff Quinney qualified for the U.S. Open by moving into the top 10 on the PGA TOUR money list. With a birdie on the final hole, Quinney finished 7-under-par for the tournament and moved to ninth on the 2008 Money List with $1,882,489. It will be Quinney's second trip to the U.S. Open. Quinney missed the cut in 2001 at Southern Hills Country Club in 2001 playing as the winner of the U.S. Amateur.

• Pat Perez enjoyed a good weekend in Texas, shooting 67-65 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to move from T35 to finish sixth this week. Perez has enjoyed Texas this year, recording his only top-10 finishes at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (6th) and the Shell Houston Open (T8).

• Perez used a final-round 66 last year at Colonial to finish solo fourth, which marked his second-best finish of the 2007 season. Perez's 65 today is his fifth round of 65 or better on the PGA TOUR this year.

• Stephen Ames likes even years at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial with top-4 finishes in 2008, 2006 and 2004.
