Immelman withdraws from U.S. Open due to injury

Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters champion, has become the third player to withdraw from the U.S. Open.

Immelman, who is suffering from tendinitis in his left wrist and elbow, told the USGA of his decision on Sunday. Robert Karlsson withdrew on Friday due to an eye infection and Dudley Hart, who has a back injury, did the same on Saturday.

Immelman, who also withdrew from the Memorial Tournament last week, will be replaced by Clinton Jensen of Jupiter, Fla. Jensen will play with Luke Donald and Tim Clark in the 8:06 a.m. group off the 10th tee on Thursday.

Karlsson, the 2008 European Tour Order of Merit winner, has no depth perception in his left eye. Andrew Svoboda of Larchmont, N.Y., replaces Karlsson. Svoboda joins Henrik Stenson and Steve Stricker in the 7:44 a.m. tee time off the 10th tee Thursday.

Hart will be replaced in the field by Scott Lewis, a 20-year-old amateur from Goleta, Calif., who plays golf at UC-Santa Barbara. He will tee off at 8:39 a.m. at No. 10 with Kevin Sutherland and Ken Duke.
