Arnold Palmer has spent over 50 years in the public eye, posed for thousands of pictures and authored some of the most memorable moments in golf history.
On Sept. 10, 2009, the King turns 80 and, in honor of his big celebration, we've picked 18 of our favorite Palmer pictures and put together a photo timeline of his career.

The Arnold-Jack factor (1960s and '70s)
Arnie and Jack. The King and the Golden Bear. Though Nicklaus would go on to win 73 times on the PGA TOUR, including 18 major championships to Palmer's seven, Palmer continued to be the fan favorite for years. Thanks to his charisma and approachability -- actor Kirk Douglas said in 1970 that Palmer possessed more "personal magnetism" than any person he'd ever met -- Palmer attracted legions of fans.
Despite their on-course rivalry, Nicklaus and Palmer did have much in common. Both went 17 consecutive years winning at least one tournament on the PGA TOUR, and both now host events on the PGA TOUR. The two even collaborated recently on an 18-hole golf course at the World Golf Village in Florida.
Born a decade apart (Palmer turns 80 this year, while Jack Nicklaus turns 70 next January), they were partners for several years in international competitions and will meet up again next year at Augusta National as honorary starters.
