SAN FRANCISCO -- Here's an in-depth look at Friday's Four-Ball match between the United States duo of Justin Leonard and Phil Mickelson and the Internationals' Retief Goosen and Adam Scott.

Overview: This one was tight, entertaining and extremely well-played. Mickelson was the catalyst early for the Americans with four birdies on the front nine, including the final three in a row. The U.S. only led 1 up at the turn, though, and when Scott nailed his approach at the 12th hole to 4 feet the match was square again. Mickelson responded with another brilliant iron to 29 inches to get the Americans' lead back and then Leonard rolled in a 14-footer at the par-3 14th to give them some breathing room. Leonard, who missed a 3-footer at the 18th hole on Thursday that would have earned a point, saved the best for last, though. He had a chance to win the match at the 16th hole and Leonard delivered -- confidently rolling in the 11-footer for birdie.
Key moment: The 14th hole turned the tide. Both Scott and Goosen found the front greenside bunker while Mickelson and Leonard were 11 and 14 feet from the pin, respectively. Leonard proceeded to make his putt and the Americans never looked back.
Quote: "I was pretty upset when I finished yesterday, but I went in and kind of made a joke about it in the team room, and knowing I needed to come out and play well today. I rode him all the way around and made a couple of putts today, so it felt very good." -- Justin Leonard
"We had a great partnership. He came back after finishing last night the way he wanted to, on the very first hole making a critical putt getting us off to a good start. When we had a chance on 14 to take control of the match, he rolled that putt right in the back. And when he had a chance to finish it he did. He showed a lot of heart today and it was fun having him as my partner." -- Phil Mickelson
