MORE INTERVIEWS: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial transcript archive

MARK WILLIAMS: Tim, thanks for joining us, 4-under 66, 17-under par, 54-hole leader by a couple. Talk about your round today. A great birdie on the last just gives you extra breathing room.

TIM CLARK: Yes, obviously I'm very pleased with the round today, a little bit slow on the front. I guess not making enough putts, but I wasn't as aggressive in a lot of the flags as I was the first two days. I didn't want to make any silly mistakes. I was happy to make pars and try to take advantage of some of the easier pin locations. On the back 9 I was able to do that with 3-under.

MARK WILLIAMS: Your were one of many today that wore the pink shirt, you got a lot of support out there and you saw a lot of pink in the crowd, it's a good thing obviously?

TIM CLARK:
Yes, obviously we all know what Amy Mickelson is going through right now. I think it's something we should do more often. There has been a lot of us being affected by breast cancer. There is never enough awareness that can be raised. It's great that it got the support that it did today.

MARK WILLIAMS: Let's open it up for questions.

Q. You have been playing so well, you got to have a lot of confidence going into tomorrow. My question is, it seems like you have the perfect game to be a front runner. You can protect and kind of look at the score and keep the ball in the fairway.

TIM CLARK: Yes, I don't know. It's never easy being the front runner. It's a little bit tougher than coming from a few shots back. But I have lead a few tournaments on the European Tour going into the last round and have been able to shoot a good score. It's about staying calm and not getting too far ahead of yourselves. This is a great course for doing that, too. You still have to come out and play good golf. If someone is going to catch me tomorrow they have to play really good, so that's good to know.

Q. As far as today's mindset you said you didn't fire at as many pins early on, is that a similar thought tomorrow, just see how things take it?

TIM CLARK: It wasn't so much, I felt like if it was a bit of a sucker flag and shortsided myself, I would have had a tough up and downs. A couple of times I just played to the safe slide side of the flag. I will probably do the same tomorrow. This is a course where you can get caught up being too aggressive and make bogeys. Obviously, I've been pretty good this week, without making bogeys, I think I made one all week.

Q. Tim, you said early that things started slow, was there a point or a hole or a shot that sort of kick-started things for you?

TIM CLARK: No, because my game still felt good. You are not just going to make every putt out there. I really had to stay patient. But I think 10 was nice to get up there and hit a great iron shot in there. It was only a 4 foot putt, but I felt like I hit a good putt there and that sort of got me going.

Q. You talk about only having one bogey on the card all week, how significant is that at event where it becomes a birdie barrage and you are not going backward and maybe some other folks are offsetting their good work with others?

TIM CLARK: I guess any time you can go without bogeys is great. I think this is quite a difficult course to do that. You miss a fairway here, it is tough to hit the greens. I'm really proud of the fact that I've hit a lot of fairways and hit a lot of greens. I'm quite surprised the scores have been as low as they've been though.

Q. With six seconds in your career, do you look at that as a proud thing? Obviously, you've come close, or is that a disappointing thing to you?

TIM CLARK: I would love to have 6 seconds and 6 wins. I am quite proud of that. I'm really happy with how my career has gone so far. I've played pretty solid and just unfortunately didn't have the wins to back up a lot of good play. That's not something that I really think about a lot. It's tough to win out here. Everyone knows it. Hopefully I do get that win sometime and it makes things easier. That's all I can hope for.

MARK WILLIAMS: Tim, we appreciate you coming in. Good luck tomorrow.
