WEATHER UPDATE (8:15 a.m.): It's raining this morning in Jersey City, N.J., but the second round teed off as planned, and there are no delays expected as of yet. However, as Tropical Storm Danny makes his way up the East Coast over the next couple of days, conditions will likely worsen in the New York area.
Current condtions: 67 degrees with light rain and 6 mph winds from the east-northeast.

| Friday's forecast |
Scattered Showers Temp: 75 high/67 low Overcast with showers at times. Winds from the east at 10 to 15 mph. |

This golf course, Liberty National, is tough -- really tough. The first round was played with virtually no wind, soft greens, and up tees. All that being said, there were a ton of low scores posted in the first round. The wind is usually blowing here, and the tees will more than likely be moved back in the second round. Look for par to be a really good score the rest of the week unless we get some rain.
Charley Hoffman is hitting the ball long and putting well. Hoffman was 6 under until a bogey at his final hole. He was victim to a bad lie in the closely-mowed collection area below the green. These areas like at Pinehurst and Augusta National are great and give the players a lot of options. Unfortunately, they also get chewed up pretty quickly and then the options narrow. Watch for one of these spots with a bad lie to play a pivotal role in someone's round this week.
The course will dry out if we do get the wind and do not get the rain. This will create havoc for the field, which right now is playing very conservative golf. Eventually, the green flag will come out this week, and players will be either greatly rewarded for daring aggressive lines or severely penalized for just missing the spot they were aiming at. We will see many sighs of relief this week and many faces of anguish.

Woods finished T4 at the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol GC in Springfield, NJ, his only previous start in a PGA TOUR or PGA TOUR co-sanctioned event in New Jersey. Should he win this week, New Jersey will become the 17th different state in which Woods has won a TOUR event. |
