EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR Network on-site correspondent Doug Bell previews Saturday's third round:
Tournament officials are expecting the largest crowds in the three-year history of the AT&T National on Saturday, and one longtime Congressional member told me that he thinks the weekend attendance figures will be larger than the 1997 U.S. Open that was held here.

Tiger Woods relishes the large gallery and feeds off the electricity the fans generate, and his game is in fine form. He told me yesterday that he's very pleased with his scoring right now, but still needs to tighten up on some approach shots. He is also working on what he calls a tweener shot off the tee, in which he chokes down on his driver and with a left-to-right ball flight hits it anywhere from 275 to 285 off the tee depending on the situation. It's a shot that will serve him well in two weeks at Turnberry for the British Open, a course he has never played. Tiger's putting has been really good, and it just goes to show how tough U.S. Open greens can be. He continues to use the same putter he had in play at Bethpage Black, despite talk he might make a switch.
U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover is also enjoying major support this week at Congressional from adoring crowds. He says it's really a great feeling and it's part of the reason he continues to play at a very high level. Lucas plans on playing next week at John Deere Classic, because he appreciates all that event has done for him over his career, and then it's off to the British Open. Right now, he's not worried about a week off, because he is simply riding a wave of momentum.
Rod Pampling says that Congressional really meets his eye and sets up perfectly for his game. His spectacular play is not a surprise, considering he finished third here in 2008. He continues to putt well, especially from long range, rolling in a 37 footer for birdie in Round 2. Pampling is an excellent lag putter and works on that part of his game on a regular basis. Bryce Molder had never played Congressional before Tuesday's practice round and admits he's still learning about where to place his ball on certain holes. Molder has been writing down notes on his yardage book during his round. He said it not only allows him to study things after the round, but he will save it for the U.S. Open in two years when it comes back here.
