EXPERT PREVIEW: PGA TOUR on-site correspondent Brett Wright previews Friday's round:
The first round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship in the books, and the leaders are Tim Petrovic and Leif Olson at 6 under.
Those are spectacular rounds considering the conditions of the day. The temperature never came close to 50 degrees, and the golf course is completely saturated.

| Friday's forecast |
Showers Temp: 58 high/53 low Cloudy with afternoon showers. Medium winds. |

Justin Rose told me that he did not think the course could take any more water. He went on to say that you may as well play out of casual water -- because there is no complete relief to be found. Kevin Stadler told me that he didn't care what he shot today. He just wanted to finish.
Ken Duke even commented that he had gone as far as investigating parallel fairways to seek a dry lie. Unfortunately, there is nothing but rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours.
With more water in the forecast and the course already soaked with standing water in many places, we could be forced to wait out a rain delay on the PGA TOUR before the course is playable. These conditions lend an advantage to long hitters who carry the ball a long way.
Olson, Robert Garrigus, Nicholas Thompson are some of the players that come to mind when it comes to bombing the ball. To the credit of the Turning Stone Resort staff, the greens remain dry and playable. As players continue to walk on the pure greens in the morning rounds, it leaves micro bumps for the afternoon rounds, where putts seem to be at a premium.

Rookie Webb Simpson opened with a 2-under 70. No rookie has won on TOUR this year. Last year, rookies Dustin Johnson and Marc Turnesa both won during the Fall Series. |
