Loren Roberts and Mark Wiebe hold a one-stroke margin over John Cook/Joey Sindelar after 36 holes of this year's Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Roberts finished T11 last year with partner Scott Simpson and was scheduled to play with Simpson again this year until he suffered a wrist injury in an auto accident on January 17th. Roberts eventually found Wiebe who had teamed with Australian Wayne Grady last year and finished T20.

Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf
36-hole leaders scores over the last six better-ball team events:
Year Team 36-Hole Scores Margin
2009 Loren Roberts/Mark Wiebe 64-61 -- 125 (-19) 1 stroke
2008 Andy North/Tom Watson 59-62 -- 121 (-23) 4 strokes
2001 Jim Colbert/Andy North 59-65 -- 124 (-20) 3 strokes
2000 Jim Colbert/Andy North 59-66 -- 125 (-19) 3 strokes
1999 Hubert Green/Gil Morgan 61-67 -- 128 (-16) 3 strokes
1998 Hugh Baiocchi/David Graham 63-64 -- 127 (-17) 1 stroke

• Several players are in contention to pick up their first official victories on the Champions Tour, including Tom Lehman who is attempting to become just the 13th player in Champions Tour annals to win in his debut. Among the other players with good opportunities to claim their initial wins are John Cook's partner, Joey Sindelar (25 starts without a win) and Nick Price's partner, Mark O'Meara (37 starts without a win). As Tom Watson's partner last year, Andy North claimed his first official event on the Champions Tour at the 2008 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

Mark James/Des Smyth and Gil Morgan/Tom Kite both carded 10-under 62 today and as a result, both made the biggest moves up the leaderboard. Both teams advanced 17 spots into a T8 after two rounds.

• Tom Watson and Andy North played another bogey-free round today, bringing their amazing run of consecutive holes without a bogey to 198 straight dating back to 2005. If the duo hopes to win for a fifth consecutive year in Savannah, they will need to make up a five-stroke deficit on Sunday. The biggest come-from-behind win in the history of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf (Legends Division) is four strokes by Julius Boros/Roberto De Vicenzo in 1979.

Jay Haas made the first double eagle in the history of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf when he holed a 3-wood second shot from 272 yards on the par-5 11th hole. It was the 34th albatross in the history of the Champions Tour and the second this year (R.W. Eaks, Mitsubishi Electric Championship). In fact, there have now been two double-eagles made by players on the Champions Tour in each of the last two years.

• The winners of the Legends Division at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will each receive 225 points in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup race. Bernhard Langer (697) is the current points leader in the Schwab Cup competition and Andy Bean is second with 414 points. Loren Roberts, currently in third place with 407 points, could move closer to Langer in the Schwab Cup standings should he and Mark Wiebe triumph tomorrow. At the end of the official season, the player with the most Schwab Cup points will earn a $1 million payout.

• In the first seven official events on the Champions Tour this year, only two Saturday leaders/co-leaders have gone on to win. Amazingly, only seven times in the history of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf has the Saturday leader/co-leader not gone on to win. The last time a team leading/co-leading heading into the final round who did not win was in 1998 when Hugh Baiocchi/David Graham held a one-stroke margin over Charles Coody/Dale Douglass after 36 holes but lost to them in a playoff on Sunday.

Roger Maltbie made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 36th hole to clinch the Raphael Division title by two strokes over Mike Hill/ Lee Trevino. For Maltbie and Gary Koch, the winning putt allowed them to defend their Raphael Division crown and the victory was their third overall (2003). Last year, Maltbie and Koch closed with a 12-under 60 and came from eight strokes back on Saturday to defeat Bob Charles/Stewart Ginn by one stroke. Koch and Maltbie each earned $60,000 for the victory.
