SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Tournament officials announced Tuesday that Liberty Mutual, title sponsor of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf for 30 years, has renewed its commitment through 2014.

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is a premier event that started the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour for players age 50 and older. The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf provides significant economic impact to the Savannah community and has generated over $1 million to local charities since the tournament moved to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa in 2003.

"Liberty Mutual is delighted to continue our long association with this historic tournament," said Edmund F. (Ted) Kelly, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Liberty Mutual Group. "The tournament and players have become very much part of the extended Liberty Mutual family and we look forward to preserving our relationship with them over the coming years."

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf's unique format features a total of three team competitions during the week, starting with the Demaret Division Monday-Tuesday followed by the Raphael Division Friday and Saturday. The Legends Division is the official competition, which is a 54-hole, two-man better-ball format that is counted as an official money/official wins for both team members. It was formerly held as an individual competition. Tom Lehman and World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer defeated Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler on the second playoff hole to become the 2009 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf champions.

World Golf Hall of Fame members Gary Player and Bob Charles won the 2009 Demaret Division for players age 70 and over. Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie won their second consecutive Raphael Division for players 50-69 with a 16-under 128 in the unofficial team portion.

"I can think of no better way to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf than by announcing this extension through 2014," said Mike Stevens, President of the Champions Tour. "Our partnership with Liberty Mutual is one of the longest in professional golf and we're delighted with this news. Not only will our players and area golf fans benefit by this extension, but area charities remain a big winner, as well."

Each year, proceeds from the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf are distributed to more than 40 charities through the United Way of the Coastal Empire.

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf held annually in April is part of the Champions Tour's "The Road to the Charles Schwab Cup", a season-long points race that kicks off in Hawaii with 25 official events and culminates in Northern California at Sonoma Golf Club October 26 - November 1, with $2.1 million in payouts awarded to the season's top five leading performers.
