SYNOPSIS
 This was Tiger Woods' second major championship, but it will also be remembered as Sergio Garcia's coming-out party. The 19-year-old Spaniard tied the course record of 66 in the first round and hung around to duel Woods down the stretch. The game's No. 1 seized a share of the lead with Mike Weir through 54 holes, one stroke ahead of Garcia and Stewart Cink. Woods played his first 11 holes in 4 under that Sunday and had opened a four-stroke advantage. As Garcia was making his presence known in the group ahead, Woods bogeyed No. 12 and doubled the 11th. Coupled with Garcia's birdie at No. 13, that meant Tiger's lead had dwindled to a single shot. Garcia would never get any closer, but he'll always be remembered for that amazing 6-iron around a tree at the 16th and his jubilant scissor-kicking run down the fairway. "Getting No. 2 is definitely a relief," Woods said. "I've given myself chances. I've come close. I've been right there. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck to go you way. This week I played well, but I also had a few lucky breaks."
