TRAVELERS REST, S.C. -- Former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket golf standouts Tripp Isenhour and Bryce Molder, along with Chris Stroud, moved out front after the first round of the $625,000 BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs, the seventh of 31 official events on the Nationwide Tour. The BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs is the only tournament on the Nationwide Tour to be contested on three different courses, utilizing The Cliffs Valley (CV), The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards (KV) and The Cliffs at Walnut Cove (WC). On Thursday, each course produced one of the leaders. Isenhour took advantage of the easier of the three courses with a 6-under 66 at Cliffs Valley. Stroud posted a 6-under 65 at Keowee Vineyards, while Molder had a 6-under 65 at Walnut Cove – which ranked as the toughest course on the Nationwide Tour a year ago. “I don’t know what the weather was doing up there but a 6-under up there is the leader of the golf tournament,” said Isenhour, speaking of Molder’s opening round. Molder, playing this week on a sponsor's exemption, made his way to the top of the leaderboard with birdies at Nos. 1, 6, 8, 12, 13, 14 and 17, with his only bogey coming at the par-3 16th hole. “I’m really pleased with the round and excited to be leading from this course,” said Molder. “If I would have had just one low round, I wouldn’t have thought it would come from this course.” Molder needed just 23 putts on the day – including 20-footer on the first hole – and enjoyed a solid ball-striking day by hitting 13 of 14 fairways. “I hit my driver well and I was able to hit my irons close to the hole,” said Molder, a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. “I was also able to make a few putts.” Isenhour – already with two wins on his resume this season – eagled the par-5 sixth hole and posted five birdies and just one bogey to join Molder in the top spot. “I gave myself a lot of opportunities and played really solid,” said Isenhour, who won earlier this season at the Movistar Panama Championship and the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship. “You’ve got to take advantage of this course when you play it.” Stroud, a 24-year-old resident of Sea Island, Ga., posted birdies at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 11, 13 and 15 to finish in a tie for the lead. Stroud finished T19 last week at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic after getting into the field as a Monday Qualifier, and is playing this week based on that finish. “To get into a tournament like this was a huge bonus,” said Stroud, who graduated from Lamar University in 2004. “I’m just going to try and hit good golf shots the rest of the week and see what happens. Today I played very solid.” First Round News & Notes: Mike Hulbert (had a hole-in-one on No. 1 at Keowee Vineyards.
