Charleston Information

Some folks come for the food.  Lowcountry cuisine is certainly reason enough for anyone to pack an overnight bag and trek on down to Charleston.  Some come for the culture.  Endless galleries, historic tours, riveting performances, all of them are valid motivating reasons for a trip to the Holy City.  Then there's the shopping.  Corridors of unique boutiques and tucked-away alcoves that store rare finds are hidden all around, and plenty are in plain view.  No to mention the beaches, the outdoor adventure, the romantic vibe and well-mannered locals that all hearken back to a simpler time, a slower pace.  Any of these considered singularly may be reason enough to road trip.  Combined and coupled with a pulsing nightlife and fresh southern energy, they might make you speed a bit faster, and plan to stay a bit longer, once you reach the city by the sea.

The air is different here, that's true.  Heavier, denser in the summers, perhaps.  Crisp and clean in the late afternoons.  The light is different, too.  Charleston's light refreacts off the water - everywhere there is water.  The light lilts through the palmetto fronds until it finds a resting place on a worn cobblestone path, a gleaming white column bearing up a significant historic structure, the taught shoulder muscles of a passing horse drawing a creaking black carriage in his wake.

Standing sill and watchin the city pass by is pleasurable enough.  One could spend several days on a park bench taking in the sights, sounds and marshy smells of Charleston.  The only problem with that plan is there's so much to do!

If you have a specific reason to come, then great.  Come on down.  If you don't know yet just why the lure of Charleston pulls so strongly, then maybe it's time to find out.  This is a city where there is truly a place for everyone.  It is where you will be welcomed like an old friend.  And, when the fading evening light begins to dime from dusk to dark, you'll find yourself feeling as though you've come home, a home unlike any ever known before.
