BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.- West Virginia Golf Charities Inc., the tournament host of the Pete Dye West Virginia Classic, is pleased
to announce the National Mining Association has agreed to partner with the Pete Dye West Virginia Classic and will become
the tournament's Presenting Sponsor. The National Mining Association (NMA) is the voice of one of America's great
basic industries in the nation's capital, with a primary mission of promoting the contribution of resources derived from mining
to our country's economic wellbeing and quality of life. West Virginia Golf Charities, Inc. is excited to be associated with
NMA and looks forward to presenting this event in cooperation with them.
"This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the state of West Virginia, its rich natural resource heritage and the
benefits of responsible reclamation," said Tournament Director Tim McNeely.
The Pete Dye Golf Club course reflects the true integration of the game and the surrounding environment. Featured on the
course, which is on reclaimed mine land, are remnants of coal mining activity, including strip mined high walls, a rotary
car tipple, coal-laden mine cars, a cart path through a once-active deep mine and waterfalls that originate from deep mining
activity of days gone by.
"NMA is proud to be associated with this important sporting event. The Pete Dye Course is a great example of the integral
role of reclamation in modern mining and the economic and recreational opportunities reclaimed mine lands are providing throughout
West Virginia," said NMA President and CEO Jack Gerard.
