In four of the last seven THE PLAYERS Championships, the tournament champion has come from the list of international players who tee it up at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, giving the event a truly global appeal, as the world's best players descend on Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., each year.

Having a international player at the top of the leaderboard wasn't always the case; for the first 13 years of the event, an American won each time. But since Scotland's Sandy Lyle won in 1987, nine of the past 22 champions have come from outside the U.S.

This year, 52 international players, representing 19 countries, will be competing at THE PLAYERS. Here's a quick look at each country represented next week, along with its history at THE PLAYERS Championship.
