Players Represent Five Major Championship Titles on PGA TOUR and Champions Tour

Baltimore, MD - Loren Roberts, Curtis Strange and Don Pooley have all recently committed to play in the 2007 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, October 1-7, at Baltimore Country Club at Five Farms in Timonium, MD. Roberts, Strange and Pooley have accumulated five major championship titles between them across both the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour

"Loren Roberts, Don Pooley and Curtis Strange are all distinguished players, recognizable names and true champions of the sport," said Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld. "They are welcome additions to our field, which is taking shape to be the best on the Champions Tour this season, further making our tournament a ‘can't-miss' event for fans across the Baltimore area."

Loren Roberts owns 14 professional titles, eight from his years on the PGA TOUR and six since he joined the Champions Tour in 2005, including the Boeing Championship at Sandestin this past June. He has also had three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes this year. His two major victories came at the 2005 JELD-WEN Tradition, his first victory on the Champions Tour, and the 2006 Senior British Open. Roberts has played three events on the PGA TOUR this year, with his best finish a tie for 63rd at the Stanford St. Jude Championship. He is second in scoring average on the Champions Tour this year (69.53), second in putting average, third in earnings ($1,593,152) and third in Charles Schwab Cup points.

Curtis Strange was victorious 17 times on the PGA TOUR, including back-to-back U.S. Open victories in 1988 and 1989. He became the first player to successfully defend a U.S. Open title since Ben Hogan accomplished the feat in 1950 and 1951. His best year on TOUR came in 1988 when he won four times. In 1988, Strange became the first player to surpass $1 million in season earnings when he captured his third of three money titles (1985, 1987 and 1988). Strange joined the Champions Tour in 2005 but has yet to taste victory. He has played in 17 events in 2007, with one top 10, eight top 25s and is 36th on the money list.

Don Pooley is known in the Baltimore area for having won the 2002 U.S. Senior Open at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, MD. He became the first qualifier to win the event and just the sixth player to claim the prestigious title in his first attempt. It was also his first Champions Tour victory. He holed a dramatic 10-foot birdie putt on the fifth extra hole of a playoff to defeat Tom Watson. He moved into the lead in the third round by shooting a course record 8-under 63, the lowest 18-hole score posted in U.S. Senior Open history. Pooley won the 1980 B.C. Open and the 1987 Memorial Tournament on the PGA TOUR. His other Champions Tour victory came at the 2003 Allianz Championship.

Roberts, Strange and Pooley join an impressive field that already includes defending champion Bobby Wadkins, World Golf Hall of Fame members Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Hale Irwin and Ben Crenshaw, Maryland native Fred Funk, Craig Stadler, Jeff Sluman, Jay Haas, Gil Morgan, Scott Hoch, Denis Watson, Jim Thorpe and Chip Beck.

Players in the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship will be competing for their share of the $2.6 million purse, which equals the largest purse on the Champions Tour this season. As the last of the Champions Tour majors, with $390,000 going to the winner, the double Charles Schwab Cup points awarded to the top-10 finishers will be a critical factor in deciding the Charles Schwab Cup points race.

The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is one of five major championships on the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour for eligible professionals age 50 and over.
