Tournament goes "green" in its 25th year
BALTIMORE - Sept. 21, 2007 - Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced that the upcoming Constellation Energy Senior
Players Championship will be the first-ever PGA TOUR or Champions Tour event to be powered fully by renewable energy.
Now in its 25th year, the Senior Players Championship will be held Oct. 1-7, 2007, at the Baltimore Country Club in Timonium,
Md.
As the title sponsor of the final major championship of the season on the Champions Tour, Constellation Energy will employ
several strategies to ensure that all of the tournament's energy needs will be offset with clean, renewable energy.
Through its retail electric supply business, Constellation NewEnergy, Constellation Energy will purchase an estimated 100
megawatt-hours of renewable energy credits to offset energy consumption at the clubhouse and will use on-site bio-diesel generators
to power all facilities throughout the course. In addition, all plastic and cardboard generated from course concessions and
tournament materials will be recycled. Additional on-site generation such as solar power will also be used, weather
permitting.
"The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship represents a unique opportunity for us to demonstrate our company-wide
commitment to the most environmentally friendly energy solutions and to showcase the many renewable products and services
we can offer to our customers," said Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Constellation
Energy. "Climate change is a global problem affecting every segment of our society, but with today's green energy alternatives,
all energy users can do their part to lower, and ultimately reverse, the effects of carbon emissions."
Constellation NewEnergy delivers 21st century solutions to companies that are looking to unite profitability with corporate
responsibility by helping executives control rising energy costs. Constellation NewEnergy designs products that allow America's
leading companies to develop sustainable energy initiatives, solutions and resources that preserve, protect and renew the
environment. The tournament is expecting to offset energy needs equal to approximately 100 megawatt-hours with renewable
energy, while avoiding nearly 63.7 metric tons of carbon from entering the atmosphere.
"The PGA TOUR's Champions Tour is proud to partner with Constellation Energy and announce the Constellation Energy Senior
Players Championship as the first PGA TOUR or Champions Tour event to use green energy to cover all of its electricity needs,"
said Rick George, president of the Champions Tour. "We are committed to promoting the importance of environmental responsibility
and are constantly seeking new ways to uphold and expand this mission."
